The Adult Basic Education Service (ABE) provides classes for adults who wish to improve their reading, writing, spelling, maths and basic computer literacy and for learners wishing to return to education. Support is provided for learners either on a one-to-one basis or in small groups. One to One tuition is arranged as much as possible to suit the learner.

The service is free and confidential and can be accessed at any time by contacting the Athy centre. Classes are part-time during the day and evening. Tuition is provided by trained tutors in a friendly and informal atmosphere.

CERTIFICATION

Participants can learn at their own pace and progress to certification level (QQI, Junior Certificate and Leaving Certificate) if desired.

 
 What opportunities will ABE offer me?

  • Reading, writing, spelling and computer support

  • Opportunity to develop and improve your English language skills needed to live, work and study in Ireland (ESOL)

  • Up-skill to gain employment or re-skill to change employment​

  • Gain confidence and work towards a recognised QQI certificate at Levels 1, 2 and 3​

What will it cost me?

The Adult Basic Education (ABE) Service is a free of charge to all. It is a confidential, friendly and flexible service which is available to people over 16 years of age and not in full time education.
