Applied Social Studies QQI Level 5 (Full-time course)
This programme is a broad academic introduction to social studies and social care. This course is also designed for those who wish to progress to Youthwork, Social Work & Social Studies, and Community Studies in Higher Level Education.
On this course students will
Acquire the knowledge, skill, and competence to work in a range of support, community and healthcare settings
Develop creative, problem-solving skills.
Explore the field of health and community care with a view to reskilling / up-skilling
Develop excellent reflective, interpersonal and team working skills.
Entry Requirements
Applicants should have a full Level 4 Certificate, Leaving Certificate, or equivalent qualifications. Places may also be available for those who have left school early and can demonstrate relevant life and work experiences.
To be able to participate fully in this programme, learners need the following:
The learner must be a confident reader, writer and speller in the English language.
Basic computer skills such as basic word processing, Internet and email are required.
Be able to work effectively in a group situation.
Attend all timetabled classes for the duration of the programme.
Motivated to learn and interested in healthcare.
Have access to a computer or laptop, and have a good internet connection.
This programme leads to a QQI Level 5 Major Award: 5M2181 Applied Social Studies.

Students completing this programme often go on to work as support workers working in the area of disability care with groups such as KARE, NUACARE, and the Irish Wheelchair Association. As an access programme, this course caters particularly to those who wish to progress to Higher Education or further professional training.

All courses, dates, and times are provisional and must be confirmed. Programme modules are provisional and may be changed at the discretion of the ETB. All Classes will commence, subject to a sufficient number of student enrolments.
